FABRIC VENDORS

Our Trusted Fabric Vendors

There are some factors that upholsters and designers must consider when shopping for the fabric that will work for you. "Abrasion" or "double rubs" are some of the most important factors. Now since these are not the most common of terms, some confusion has come up that has to do with the numbers and what is needed for upholstery applications. Some of the top manufacturers have started to perform extreme abrasion tests and finding results of 100, 000+ double rubs. Simply put, consumers believe that anything less than 100,000+ is no longer durable enough

Truthfully, fabric that meets 15,000 double rubs is more than enough for home furniture upholstery. To go a little deeper, furniture that is not used as much such as accents chairs, can go as low as 9,000 double rubs without developing any wear and tear.
What the industry tells us today is that numbers higher than 35,000 double rubs are not  as significant in providing value in terms of commercial use. When testing most manufactures stop the abrasion test when the fabric has passed the 35,000 double rub. There really is not point in going any further than that. If you are looking for fabrics by their double rubs, follow these numbers to get a better idea:

Light Use: 9,000 to 11,000
Medium Use: 12,000 to 15,000
Heavy Use: 15,500+

So the bottom line when it comes to choosing a fabric is to find something that really stands out to you. The chances are you will be tired of the fabric before the fabric looks tired.
